    这是《实用英语会话》的最后一个单元，我们讨论西方人最感兴趣的一个话题--体育运动。
    欧美人，尤其是美国人，特别喜欢体育运动，他们对体育运动的狂热远远超过了对政治和竞选总统活 动。他们也许不知道谁竞选总统成功，但却知道谁球打得好，哪儿有精彩的垒球、篮球或橄榄球比赛。美国人的拉拉队是世界上首屈一指的，为了他们所崇拜的球星能获胜，可以不惜喊破嗓子为他们助威。球迷之间为各自崇拜的球星大打出手，这也是司空见惯的事情。与影视、歌星一样，体育明星的风流韵事会引起球迷和观众的极大兴趣，成为他们闲谈中的热门话题。

第三部分 重点提示
一、动名词与现在分词的形态完全一样，都是在动词尾部加 "ing" 构成，但功能却不同。初学英语的人很难分辨清楚何为现在分词，何为动名词。笔者提供以下五点供读者参考。
[A] "be" 动词加词尾是 "ing" 的单词，若可译成"正在……"时，该单词就是现在分词，形成进行时的句子结构。如： He is swimming. 他正在游泳。
[B] "be" 动词加词尾是 "ing" 的单词，若可译成"令人……"时，该单词还是现在分词，形成形容词，在句中做主语的补足语。如： The news is exciting. 这消息令人兴奋。
[C] "be" 动词加词尾是 "ing" 的单词，若译成"是……"时，该单词则是动名词，它可以与主语互换位置。如： His hobby is swimming. 他的爱好是游泳。此例可以互换成： Swimming is his hobby. 游泳是他的爱好。
[D] 词尾是 "ing" 的单词修饰名词，若该单词可译成"令人……"或"主动会……"时，该单词就是现在分词。如： He asked a confusing question. 他问了一个令人迷惑的问题。再如： He knows many words, so we call him a walking dictionary. 他认识许多字，因此我们称他是"活字典"。 "walking"意思是"会走路的"，即"活的"之意。
[E] 词尾是 "ing" 的单词加名词，若该单词译成 "供……之用"时，该单词就是动名词，仍做形容词，修饰之后的名词。如： I lost my walking stick. 我把那用来走路的棍子弄丢了（我把我的拐杖弄丢了）。
初学英语的人，最困难的是当动名词用作名词的补足语（表语）时，容易误认成进行时态。解决的办法可采用汉语翻译是否符合逻辑，就可破解这个难题了。例如："简易用语"第12句 My favorite winter sport is skiing. 如果把 "skiing" 误做分词，看做是现在进行时态，把意思体会成"我最喜欢的冬季运动正在滑雪"，岂不成了笑话。本单元的"简易用语"和"短小情景会话"中有不少现在分词和动名词，读者不防自我测试一下，是否能判断出它们是属于哪种词。
二、在英语中， "play" 是个很有用的词，演奏乐器可用 "play" 表示，打球也可用 "play" 表示。但是，前者 "play" 之后要加定冠词 "the"，而"打球"则不用定冠词。例如：
You play the piano beautifully. 你的钢琴弹得很好。
When you played football, what position did you play? 你踢足球踢的是什么位置？
